Top 5 Study Habits Every Secondary School Student Needs
1. Review Notes the Same Day
Research shows that reviewing material within 24 hours dramatically improves retention. Spend just 15–20 minutes after school going over what was taught that day.
2. Practice Actively, Not Passively
Reading notes is passive. Working through problems is active. Always prioritise doing questions over re-reading — your brain learns by solving, not by absorbing.
Tip: If you can't solve a question after 5 minutes, mark it and move on. Return to it after finishing easier questions.
3. Use the Pomodoro Technique
Study for 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break. Repeat. After 4 rounds, take a longer 15-minute break. This prevents burnout and keeps focus sharp.
4. Keep an Error Log
Buy a small notebook and record every mistake you make in practice papers. Write:
Review this log before exams — it's your personalised study guide.
5. Ask Questions Early
Don't let confusion snowball. If you don't understand something in class, ask your teacher or tutor that same week. In Maths and Science, every concept builds on the previous one — a gap today becomes a wall next month.
